Another Spring boating story and this time it’s about the AGLCA Great Loop Cruisers Rendezvous in Norfolk, VA.
The Erie Canal usually opens in mid May which makes the Spring Rendezvous in Norfolk convenient both for location and timing. This year the snowmelt and rainfall flooding in the Great Lake Region pushed back the opening of the Erie Canal System. “No problem, Mon” as many of the Loopers have learned during their winter visit to the Bahamas. Schedules are dangerous so this delay just gives everyone more time to explore the Chesapeake Bay.
Many of the traveling Looper Boats – more than 50 – docked in the adjacent marina. If you were late with your reservation overflow docking was available next door at the Nauticus Naval Museum. A few more Loopers dropped their hook on the other side of the river at the Hospital Point Anchorage. We even met more cruisers who docked in Portsmouth.
If you would like more information about becoming a “Looper” send us an email and we can help you become a member or visit the aglca website.
